The Spreadsheet of Fun

Do you relate to any of these statements?

  • "I am an obsessive trip planner, researching everything I possibly can ahead of time."
  • "My love of organization is second only to my love of...wait...there's NOTHING I love more than organization! (Sorry, family.)"
  • "People sometime shake their head and sigh when I describe my trip planning process."
  • "I want to make love to Microsoft Excel."
If any of that resonates with you, I bring you *trumpet fanfare*...THE SPREADSHEET OF FUN!

The SoF is something that I've developed and evolved over the last 20 years to serve as my central repository for all data related to trips we've planned/taken. While it is not for everyone, hard-core Excel and/or data-driven folks might find value in it. I've shared this with a small handful of folks over the years and about 1/3 of them love it and think I'm a genius. The other 2/3 roll their eyes, pat me on the head, and say things like "well, aren't YOU special." That's OK, too. I am a genius, and I am special 🙂 . You don't have to use the SoF - my feelings won't be hurt.

I'm offering AS-IS two editions of the SoF for your potential review and use:

SpreadsheetOfFun-Template.xlsm: This is the most current version, with most data removed. If you want to experiment with the time/distance calculator on the Restaurants tab you have to follow the instructions on the "API Key" tab before it will work. NOTE: The code that powers this particular function is NOT mine. I found it on the internet, but sadly cannot find the original source any longer. AFAIK it was open source.

202603-Quantum-11N-B2B-Mexico-CLEANED.xlsm: This is the COMPLETED SoF that was from our March 2026 B2B on Quantum. The only thing I've removed is identifying info and (most) pricing. This allows you to see how it all hangs together. (I didn't have the time/distance calculator in this particular iteration. I've just added that for the current version. I also made some layout changes between versions, but that happens all the time.)

Hope you find something you can use to your advantage! And I'm VERY open to suggestions and/or some of your favorite ways to track data for your trips.
